Find the right integration type for your website and learn when Static Ads, Responsive Ads, AMP-HTML Ads, Newsletter Ads or Fly-In Ads are best suited.

Overview

Once you have created your website and at least one ad block in your publisher account, you can integrate the ads into your website.

Depending on the structure of your website and your use case, various integration options are available. Whether it is a traditional desktop website, responsive page, AMP or newsletter – AdUp offers the right integration for every environment.

Which type of integration is the right one?

The choice of the appropriate integration type depends on where and how you want your ads to be displayed.

Integration type

Suitable for

Static Ads

Desktop websites with fixed ad spaces

Responsive Ads

Responsive websites and mobile-first layouts

AMP-HTML Ads

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)

Newsletter Ads

Email newsletters

Fly-In Ads

Overlays and high-attention placements

Static Ads

Static Ads have a fixed width and height.

The ads are delivered within an iFrame and are particularly suitable for traditional ad spaces with defined dimensions.

Ideal for:

  • Desktop websites

  • Fixed banner spaces

  • Traditional layouts

  • Sidebars

  • Header and footer banners

Advantages

  • Simple integration

  • Fixed sizes

  • Complete control over placement

Limitations

  • No automatic adaptation to different screen sizes

  • Only limited suitability for mobile websites

Responsive Ads

Responsive Ads automatically adapt to the size of the available container.

This ensures that the same ads are optimally displayed on desktop, tablet, and smartphone.

Ideal for:

  • Responsive websites

  • Mobile-first projects

  • Flexible layouts

  • Modern CMS systems

Advantages

  • Automatic size adjustment

  • Optimal display on all devices

  • Less maintenance effort

Limitations

  • Requires a responsive container

  • Layout should be designed flexibly

AMP-HTML Ads

AMP-HTML Ads enable the integration of ads on Accelerated Mobile Pages.

The integration is done via the special <amp-ad> tag and uses Responsive Ads technology in the background.

Ideal for:

  • AMP websites

  • Mobile news portals

  • Fast landing pages

Advantages

  • AMP-compatible

  • Fast loading times

  • Optimised for mobile devices

Limitations

  • Can only be used on AMP pages

  • Requires valid AMP markup

Newsletter Ads

Newsletter Ads have been specifically developed for use in email newsletters.

Each ad consists of a linked image (<img>) embedded within a link (<a>).

Ideal for:

  • Regular newsletters

  • Editorial mailings

  • Existing customer communication

Advantages

  • Specifically optimised for email clients

  • Simple integration

  • Conversion and click measurement possible

Limitations

  • Custom parameter structure

  • Each ad requires a unique rank

Fly-In Ads

Fly-In Ads appear as an overlay at the edge of the browser window.

Depending on the configuration, they are displayed time-controlled or based on the scroll position.

Ideal for:

  • Product recommendations

  • Native advertising

  • Cross-selling

  • High-attention ad spaces

Advantages

  • High visibility

  • Flexible positioning

  • Extensive configuration options

Limitations

  • Should be used subtly

  • Can negatively impact user experience if configured incorrectly

Which integration do we recommend?

For most modern websites, we recommend Responsive Ads.

They automatically adapt to different screen sizes and work reliably on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

On the other hand, Static Ads are particularly suitable if fixed ad spaces with defined dimensions are present.

AMP-HTML Ads and Newsletter Ads are only used in corresponding special use cases.

Fly-In Ads are suitable as a supplementary advertising format with particularly high visibility.

Best Practices

Choose the matching integration type

Use the integration type that best suits your website type.

Prefer responsive websites

If your website has a responsive design, you should also use Responsive Ads.

Test ads on all devices

Check the display on:

  • Desktop

  • Tablet

  • Smartphone

This ensures that ads are delivered correctly everywhere.

Consider performance

Where possible, use asynchronous integrations and lazy loading to optimise loading times.

Common Error Sources

Wrong integration type selected

Static Ads on a fully responsive website can lead to display issues.

Unsuitable container sizes

Responsive ads require sufficient space within the layout.

Multiple integration of the same ad

An ad block should only be integrated once per container.

Incorrect use of special formats

AMP-HTML Ads work exclusively on AMP pages, Newsletter Ads exclusively within email newsletters.
