Import existing SEM campaigns quickly and easily into your AdUp account via an AEA file.

Overview

If you are already running search engine marketing, you can quickly and easily import existing campaigns into AdUp.

By importing an AEA file, you carry over your campaign structure, including campaigns, ad groups, ads and keywords. This saves you time and means you do not have to rebuild your account from scratch.

Import SEM account

Step 1: Open the advertiser frontend

Log in to the advertiser frontend.

Step 2: Access the import

Navigate to:

Tools → Import SEM Account

Step 3: Upload the AEA file

Select your AEA file and start the import.

After a successful upload, the campaigns contained within it will be automatically imported into your AdUp account.

Requirements for the AEA file

Before you upload your file, you should note the following points:

  • Maximum file size: 4 MB

  • Supported format: AEA

If your file is larger than 4 MB, we will be happy to assist you with the import. Simply contact our support team.

Which data is imported?

Campaigns

For each campaign, the following information, among other details, is carried over:

  • Campaign name

  • Daily budget

  • Start date

Ad groups

For each ad group, the following information is imported:

  • Ad group name

  • Default CPC bid

Ads

Currently, only text ads can be imported.

The following are not supported:

  • Display ads

  • Image ads

  • WAP ads

For each ad, the following details are carried over:

  • Headline

  • Ad text

  • Display URL

  • Final destination URL

Keywords

For each keyword, you can import the following information:

  • Keyword

  • Match type

  • Status

  • Optional CPC bid

  • Optional destination URL

Supported match types are:

  • Broad match

  • Phrase match

  • Exact match

What is not imported?

Due to differences in account and campaign structures, the following elements cannot currently be carried over:

  • Ad extensions

  • Target audiences

  • Placements

  • Negative placements

These settings must be added manually after the import.

After the import

Select advertising networks

After a successful import, you can specify the desired advertising networks for each campaign.

In addition, check the campaign settings and adjust them if necessary.

Add ad images

If you wish to enhance your campaigns with image ads, you have two options:

Upload images yourself

Use the bulk upload via the Edit menu to add images to multiple ads simultaneously.

Have AdUp import images

For larger campaigns, we are happy to handle the image import for you.

Simply send us a generic motif, for example:

  • Logo

  • Brand mark

  • Product motif

We will then save this for your ads.

Best practices

Check the AEA file before uploading

Control the following prior to importing:

  • File size

  • Campaign names

  • Budgets

  • Destination URLs

  • Keyword types

This allows you to avoid unnecessary rework.

Check campaigns after importing

After importing, check in particular:

  • Budgets

  • CPC bids

  • Target pages

  • Ads

  • Keywords

  • Advertising networks

This ensures that your campaigns are delivered as desired.

Common sources of error

File is larger than 4 MB

In this case, the file cannot be imported via the advertiser frontend.

Simply contact our support team – we will be happy to carry out the import for you.

Unsupported campaign elements

Extensions, target audiences and placements are not imported and must be set up manually afterwards.

Missing ad images

After importing, text ads initially contain no images. You can add these afterwards via bulk upload or have them imported by our support team.
